Social Networking Tools

  • Twitter -- New Account -- Sign up for a Twitter account if you don't already have one. Let's experiment to see how Twitter contributes to the Transition Movement
  • Twitter-- Connect with LSquiresSkype -- Set yourself to follow LSquiresSkype. We'll see where it goes from there.
  • Skype -- Preferred method for voice communications. Skype is free to install and use -- skype users spread over large geographic areas can work endlessly online on projects without charges, and without travel. Skype calls to landlines and cell phones -- Need to call non-Skype phones? Set up a pre-paid account. Call Les Squire sif you have questions how pre-paids differ from skype-to-skype free accounts.
  • Ning -- Create your own social network for anything. Ning is free. The Ning platform is the foundation for 75 Transition social networking sites. Be sure to declare your site as a Group here on Transition US. Make Les Squires an Admin on your site if you would like occasional coaching and networking with other Transition sites.
  • Yugma -- Preferred method for desktop sharing. Yugma is free. Up to 20 persons at remote locations can share a powerpoint presentation, or look at a spreadsheet together, or review a document being edited in Word. Combined with skype voice connections, localities can provide inexpensive get-togethers.
  • Facebook -- Facebook is an extremely popular communication tool. Free to use. The favorite method for millions to nurture their interests.
  • MySpace -- Like Facebook, MySpace is an extremely popular communication tool. Free to use. Why not let some of your MySpace and Facebook associates know that you are vitally interested in Transition....
  • YouTube -- If you're into video, you already know about YouTube -- the largest library of videos in the world. YouTube is free to use and free to upload your own videos. So, the next time you're in the garden and have your camera hanging on a cornstalk....
