We had one in Newton, NJ. We had a rainy, windy day but a real nice turnout. Great to see 50-60 people brave the downpours to demand action on climate change.
Here in Cotati, CA, we had a Climate Festival. We had solar cookies being baked, 350 face painting and stencils, postcards to send to electeds, an electric bike vendor, ExtraCycles on display, seeds to plant, and more all in the parking lot of our local grocery store. Good fun.
Ten folks from around Ohio arrived in two vehicles as I was cooking food on the campfire.
- We briefly toured the off-grid solar electric, solar thermal, passive solar and some of the other Transition related projects here. You can view photos of some of these projects on Transition Ohio.
- It was a cool, rather blustery, fall day so we moved into the mother house, shared hot soup, tea and other wonderful goodies that folks gifted to the gathering.
- Some of us played with the art supplies that had been set out in advance.
- We partook in a talking rock circle wherein folks listened, connected and shared news about their lives and group activities, their perspectives on Climate Change, 350, Transition, etc. We also shared what we have been doing and what we plan to do with regards to our own lifestyle change as the days unfold. There were great connections and talk of closer networking.
- It was a lot of fun, really helped deepen our connections and we planted a lot of seeds for on-going action. Moreover, we felt connected to everyone else hosting 350 events around the planet. Stupendous!
Fun, meaningful, fulfilling, connected and ...good food!
Kaitlyn B. Is an OU photojournalism student who has become informed, inspired, empowered and mobilized! She and her parents, from northern Ohio, joined us. She has posted her photos on 350.org, her Facebook album page and shared them with us where they are now posted on Transition Ohio page.
(We work/play with a variety of Ohio University students within our internship program. It is a way to connect with students, share and help catalyze more student interest, awareness and action at the Ohio University campus in Athens Ohio.)
Thanks for sharing news of your events and all you do! Mamaka
In Bellingham and Whatcom County, WA, Transition Whatcom had a great 350 day event called the Perennial Project. We planted over 350 edible perennials in public places all over the county- at schools, businesses, and parks. These plants will bear food for years, especially the nut and fruit trees, and are a practical manifestation of the 350 goal to reduce carbon emissions. More of our photos are on display at TransitionUS.org, click here.
