Doug,

I telephoned and spoke with your lovely wife. She very friendily answered many questions that I had about Welches and the surrounding environs.

I offer thee all my help in any way that I am able.

A suggestion for you all and everybuddy is that you consider creating village centers where they do not already exist or recreate and/or rehab them if they are existing.

Please feel free to call me if you want to discuss the situation or anything related to issues related to transitioning.

I have call anywhere in US phone service, so if you want to put it on my "dime", that would be cool.

In Peace, Friendwalkin', Community, Cooperation, and Solidarity,

Hello everyone,

I would like to update you all on the sustainability fair here in Welches Oregon on April 24 from 9-4.
On December 17 we judged the contest naming the the event. We had quite a few entries from our local elementary school.
The winner was 2nd grader Benny Cox (see photo below). The name Benny gave us is ....

"Mt Hood Green Scene".

The planning is proceeding well. We have decided to move the event into the bigger auditorium/gym at our middle school due to the amount of interest and the number of groups participating.

The Green Scene will consist of recycling, a sustainability fair, activities and games for children, friends of the library book sale and an exhibits of high school and middle school student sustainability projects.

Our next community planning meeting is scheduled for Jan 6 at 7pm at the Welches school library

Our first newspaper ad will be published in the February edition of the mountain times. I would like to try and finalize all the participants by January 15. If your organization can not make a decision prior to that - we will still try to hold space for you. I will be calling some of you prior to January 15.

Great Resource lists Lane! You've been rocking on this site...I can hardly keep up! :-)

And I am also a fan on using the concept & word "interdependence" to replace past thinking of "self-reliance" or "independence" that you wrote of.
We are all connected! Our lives depend on the gifts of the earth & each other!

Re the guidelines: Lane knows I encouraged him over the phone to post them as part of the group guidelines.
My only comment is the last one - “brevity”, which can be a bit challenging for some of us, some of the time...but not all of the time... :-)
I'm better at reduced frequency of sharing.

Lane, Would it be helpful if we started a discussion-forum for the new site administrators & others who are interested, that we could shop-talk site ideas & changes on?
Mmm, maybe title it : 'Improvements & Suggestions for Website”.

I am going to try to attach the Pages in the Transition Primer, available here:

TRANSITION PRIMER
That refer to the 12 Step program that is theTWELVE STEPS.pdf suggested method of starting Transition Towns initiatives. I am wondering if we would be a more effective group if we established Discussions that address these topics. Here is where I try to attach the 12 steps. Wish me luck.....

We now have topics viewable in the Discussion Forum. Hopefully this will prevent overloading of the Comment Wall with lengthy discussions and dialogues. Feel free to join in on the discussions and share your opinions.

Tamara, thank you for the guidelines. I will definitely try to follow them:
- Open-mindedness: listen to and respect all points of view
- Acceptance: suspend judgment as best you can
- Curiosity: seek to understand rather than persuade
- Discovery: question old assumptions, look for new insights
- Sincerity: speak for yourself about what has personal heart and meaning
- Brevity: go for honesty and depth but don't go on and on.

Heather, and others, I'm sorry if you feel inundated with e-mail messages. I have been trying to discuss the viewpoints others in this group may have for the Cascadia megaregion, and see what thoughts may also apply to those of us on the east side of the Cascades. I have a great deal of curiosity about the Transition movement, and am trying to bring together my own vision for my local community, city, and bioregion. If it matters to anyone, I am 47 years old, but we can learn from both our elders, and young minds alike. All have different experiences and ways of seeing the world. I would like to see more discussions and opinions about the visions we have for the Cascadia region. Only time will tell, but it's always better to be happy than right.
