Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
I've run a website: PreparedTompkins.org, since 2004 that offers practical hands-on suggestions for households during the ongoing cultural transition. Am also a co-founder of IthaCan (a local home food preservers network) and belong to TCLocal (Tompkins County relocalization group.) Have also attended one of Joanna Macy's Great Turning workshops.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
Am interested in finding out what others are doing in their communities. To share lessons learned and best practices.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
Sharing information I've accumulated on PreparedTompkins.org over the past four years. Also my experience developing IthaCan (a peer-to-peer skill sharing network) might be a useful model for other communities.

Welcome Katie! Great to see you here on Transition U.S. and Transition New York. You highlighted in your profile "... I've run a website: PreparedTompkins.org, since 2004 that offers practical hands-on suggestions for households during the ongoing cultural transition. Am also a co-founder of IthaCan (a local home food preservers network) and belong to TCLocal (Tompkins County relocalization group.)..." -- One thing we'd really welcome -- your creating a Group here on this site, perhaps named Friends of PreparedTompkins, so we can keep track of each other. This also signals us to include your work in our All-Transition search. Let me know if you have questions.

  • Join our Newcomers Group -- if you want to hang out with others who are in the early stages of mulling things over.
  • Read how highly we regard contributions of individuals and groups
  • Edit your profile -- Forgot something really important? Like a photo…
  • Declare yourself -- What do you personally bring to the potluck? Give it a title and say much more than you included in your Profile. Lay out your offer in detail. Or, tell us what you’d really like to learn! Others will join in.
  • Profile your group -- Make your constituents visible. Find some creative ways to offer their special values to mentor all Transitioners.
  • Reinforce, reinforce, reinforce -- Connect the dots -- friends to friends, newcomers to oldcomers, groups to groups, groups to members, skills to skills, special interests to special interests. This is your garden. Cultivate for the harvest.
  • Next steps TransitionUS -- Set up local Transition initiatives as official Transition communities; sign up for training; build your community resilience.
Have fun!
