Hi Jared, sounds good! Shall we advertise a get-together, here as well as on Transition MA and on Meet-Up? I'll ask around here with people who are not on BATnet or Transition MA. When we see how many are interested and what their calendars are like…
Hi Jared,
I don't know, hadn't thought about that. I guess I don't really care, as long as it's a good training of Transition from someone who knows it well and who, more importantly, has done it (started an Initiative and seen it take off).
That's…
How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
I am keen on stepping outside of my vegetable garden and approaching others in my town. I've researched the Transition Initiative and Permaculture extensively, and I know we can make it work here. The next step for me, now, is to attend a Transition Training and to consolidate our steering group.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
For the last year my family and I have been informing ourselves about Peak Oil and climate change. As a result we have been making conscious efforts to live more sustainably. We are, for instance, members of the Riot for Austerity group, we are working on our skill sets (pottery, carpentry, beekeeping, etc.), and are growing a large vegetable garden from seed. But we are aware of the fact that if it is just us doing this, we won't make a difference, either to the lives of our neighbors or even our own. We are keenly aware of the need to transition as a community.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
Most practically I am interested in setting up a Transition Town here in my hometown in Wayland, Mass. Our town is an interesting situation: a mix of McMansion and humble ranch in a leafy suburb of Boston. What we will do here in terms of successes and failures will be interesting for many other such towns in the US.
In a longer term view, I am a writer, and I foresee that lots of stories will have to be told to share experiences, hopes and fears.
