Hmmm Hey all Speaking of confusing websites-how does one set up groups? I want to add two more groups to MA website but have no idea what to write when they ask you for the URL? How does one add pictures if I have none? Jen Mazer

Whoa, I beg to differ. Ning is quite complicated. I go into the transitionus ning site and I get depressed with all the busy stuff there. I can never find what I'm looking for. A blur of people and no list of state groups I can find and easily cli...

Stan, I'm not sure if this is what you are asking, but our local sustainability group has a yahoo group, a website and we meet once a month. It is a collection of small towns, so we can easily email and call each other, when the need arises, when...

Hi Sandi, Thank you for your in-depth reply. It is very helpful and I have to say that your response leaves me inspired to try harder to get people to join the Ning site, but still I have my concerns about Ning being a bit too much of a hurdle fo...

Hi, I am curious what communication technologies folks are using for the volunteers associated their Transition Initiative. We are just getting started, in the pre-Great Unleashing stage (in steps 1-3). For us, three categories of people seem to...

I cannot recall the answer to this from my Training for Transition. What is the optimal size for an Initiating Group? My sense is that the Initiating Group should be a minimum of three people and a maximum of five or six people. I know it all depe...

Hi Stan, you left a message about changing the creator of a subgroup. Unfortunately, Ning hasn't provided a good way to do that, although they are very aware from the number of our requests.... We'll revisit this when things change. Good luck with your move.

Hi Stan, Thanks for your note and the photo. A memorable night with Naresh and 220 plus energized folks! I think the timing of Transition Town is right on - folks who have been working on these issues for years and even decades, can now rally round once again and get the infrastructures of sustainability in place for even more members of our communities - gardens, root cellars, animal power.... It's time. Annie

Hi Stan,
Thanks! Quite an amazing night - the heart of it for me was feeling the grounded power, readiness and goodwill of those 200 folks crowded into the downstairs after the talk proper. That's the power that will get us where we need to go.
Thanks for getting Naresh where he needed to go the next morning!
Cheers! George ~

Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
I have taken the "Training for Transition" course (Nov 22-23, Cambridge, MA, USA) and am looking to get a reading group started in my community to spur on a initiating group for a Transition Initiative in the Hamilton-Wenham community (Hamilton, Massachusetts, USA)
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I have been grappling with addressing both oil dependency and climate change for some time. I am attracted to Transition because it clearly recognizes both of these issues together. Additionally, the concept of creating resilient communities and visioning of your community as a resilient community in the future feels right on to me. I am excited by the sheer number of other people who are also attracted to Transition and expect that the momentum and creative genius of these people will lead to vibrant, resilient communities of the future.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
- Helping to initiate a Transition Initiative in my community.
- To contribute Transition's success by leveraging my experience with Carbonrally.com as well as my 20+ years of information technology, knowledge management, and product/project management expertise.

Suggestions you have for improving our Registration questions. Getting to know you better.
You might be missing out on people joining TransitionUS because of the two required open ended questions "How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?" and "In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?" They take a while to give a thoughtful answer and may in some cases lead to people not registering. I know it stopped me the first time I saw the registration page. I think they are all great questions, I am just not sure they should be required.
