Outstanding presentation! It went off without a hitch. Good fidelity with the Skype connection and slides flowed well (even when you forgot to advance the 12 steps), and BTW, thanks for the quote from my book. I completely share the sense of opportunity and enthusiasm, and you totally conveyed that to this very receptive audience.

I will get a copy of your show from Aaron, because I gave a similar one last week in Andalusia, Alabama but lacked your up-to-date graphics, like the world map of initiatives.

Give my warmest regards to all the Sandpointers, and Bill Wilson says hi too!

Morning Michael,

I sent out invitation emails to a group of friends and coleages yesterday and I have a suggestion for the invitation. I noticed that there is no description built into the invitation to describe Transition. I suggest adding the tag line at the top right of the web page that begins ... "Tackling climate change..." so invitees know what this organization is all about.

Let's make a time to talk soon.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for setting up the website. There seems to be a lot of excitement around Transition right now. My concern about importing the Transition model here was that we are all too far apart to support one another and inspire new groups, so this website is just what's needed to connect.

I look forward to seeing you at the conference. Can you give me call so we can talk about how you'd like to let folks know about transition? There might be time during a plenary session where I could fit you in but I'd like to know what you're thinking (length, content, aids, etc.).

Hope you're well!

My best,
Megan

Hi Michael!
Great site...Thank you!

We spoke on the telephone a few weeks ago about an Ohio public speaking event. I'm also in communication with Megan, Community solutions, about a possible Ohio rally in Athens. I'm also working with a new group in Athens along these lines as well.

We're still in the early stages but I'm wondering if you still might be available for such a rally in the spring.

I'm heading out to Ojai, CA for my son's wedding in December. I'm considering merging the trip with the Transition Training in LA. I wish they were also offering Train the Trainer course but perhaps I can contact Carolyn to see what it might take to offer an Ohio training. Just thought I'd mention it in the event you have any ideas.

Thanks again and best wishes...great stuff!!!

"Hi Rodger. Welcome to Transition U.S. I'd be interested in learning about your experience with Ning sites. Let's set up a time we can chat. "

I'll get back to you in a few minutes on skype (just sitting down to lunch).

Great site. I'd like to help out with a few ideas. I've been deeply involved with using Ning for a while and I have experience in how to use it for getting your message out and growing participation.

Hi Michael!
Great to see this website up and running. Thank you and congratulations! I encourage you to enable messages between members as well as the public 'comments'. I think this would increase the useful connectivity of the network considerably. I note that the "Meet Up" format that Alastair Lough is using for the Transition Center in Portland, Maine allows this.
Cheers! George Lisi, Vermont

It was a great pleasure to meet you and I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation. I will try to spread the word about Relocalization and Transition while I study Rob Hopkin's material. Many thanks and blessings to you for coming to Michigan.

ARE GMO SUGAR BEETS IN BOULDER COUNTY PART OF THE WORLD ACCORDING TO MONSANTO?

by Michael Brownlee,
Transition Colorado
(from EnergyBulletin)

It’s quite a spectacle to behold. Here in Boulder County—Colorado home of the nation’s first carbon tax and the first city to offer property-based financing for solar installations and energy retrofits—we’re watching our County Commissioners wrestle with a proposal from six local farmers seeking official approval to grow Roundup-Ready GMO sugar beets on county-owned o… Continue

THE CRASH COURSE: A personal invitation

Making sense of economic turmoil is no small challenge. Many of us gave up on understanding the economy a long time ago. Besides, economics has always seemed to live up to its reputation as the most dismal of sciences. In the past, why would we want to study it in depth--unless we were hoping to significantly profit from economic and financial pursuits? As Woody Tasch laments in Inquiries into the Nature of Slow Money, "I have had it up to--here!--with the opaque, impersonal, d… Continue

HOT, FLAT, AND EMPTY

Tom FriedmanWhen Tom Friedman speaks, people listen.

We've been listening, too.

A few weeks ago, the popular New York Times columnist came to Boulder for a public appearance at the massive Mackey Auditorium. The event was sold out weeks in advance, which was okay with me because I had no interest in attending.

However, I noticed that a number of people had been recommending… Continue

THE TRANSITION TOWN MOVEMENT: EMBRACING REALITY AND RESILIENCE, by Carolyn Baker

By Carolyn Baker, Speaking Truth to Power

Sunday, 04 January 2009

For several months I have been meaning to write a review of Rob Hopkins' The Transition Handbook: From Oil Dependency to Local Resilience, but other things got in the way-like a planetary economic meltdown and out of control climate change that exceeds some of the most dire predictions by climate sc… Continue
